There is absolutely no difference between external hard drive and internal hard drive if you consider the operation or drive mechanics. USB and Firewall interface has made external hard drive installation very user friendly.

In the practical day to day usage, USB 2.0 is clear winner. Firewall interface external hard drives requires more time than USB 2.0 compliant Hard drives. These external hard drives are USB 2.0 compliant. Iomega, Freecom are some of the manufacturers of external hard drive. These drives require external power supply and are most suitable for desktop use.

Transcend external drives supplies driver CD, power and USB cable only. However attractive leather case supplied with drive gives value for money. It also gives lot of portability. Transcend has given a thought to portability and included the leather carry bag which is very useful feature for the user. The data cable and visiting card sized driver CD completes the drive package.

Higher access time

However these external hard drives have higher access time compared to desktop drive because of USB interface. But because of USB interface, CPU utilization is less in the range of 8.4 to 10. This means less load on CPU.

In the sequential read / write test, Transcend drives were faster than Iomega and Freecom. This means, Transcend drives will require less time for frequent data read/ write applications. If you want to save time go for Transcend drives. After all time is money.
