Contents of phishing kits

These phishing kits contain all the graphics, web code and text required to construct bogus websites designed to have the same look as genuine online banking sites. They also include spamming software which enables potential fraudsters to send out hundreds of thousands of phishing emails as bait for innocent people.

Sophos research team believes that thousands of phishing emails are sent across the net every day, each designed to mislead the innocent net-surfers to squeeze money from them, and the problem is growing rapidly. This is because of free availability of phishing kits over the net, Sophos worries that this trend is going to be increased.

Phishing attacks an organized crime 

It was seem to be, phishing attacks, largely as the work of organized criminal gangs, but it turned into misbelieve since do-it-yourself phishing kits readily available on the Internet. With help of it literally anybody with criminal mind would be able to build a replica of any banking or financial site and convince people to disclose confidential information such as passwords, PIN numbers, credit card numbers and details of bank account.

A research team of Sophos requests net surfers to be aware of any suspicious e-mail asking them to reconfirm sensitive and confidential financial information and advises that anti-spam software at the email gateway can prevent these unwanted e-mail messages from reaching their mail boxes.

One has to be cautious while clicking a suspicious links of so called online banks and just delete them. Genuine web hosts and ISPs can also protect their websites of being victimized by closing down websites if they find these kits posted on their servers.

As criminal mind people know very well that, there is a lot of money to be made from phishing. It is very dangerous to put the necessary tools in the hands of amateurs, it's likely that the number of attacks will continue to rise in future.
