Laptop Motherboard

Laptop is a small personal computer, which is too smart and compatible enough to keep on the lap and work. One can carry it from place to place, thus, the basic source of power supply is a battery, which we need to charge often. We all know that a computer is an electronic device and it consists of many electronic parts, like Motherboard, Hard disk drive, CD drive, and etc. Likely a laptop consists of similar parts, but some parts are comparatively smaller than personal computers.

Unlike personal computer's motherboard, laptop's motherboard consists of parts like Audio chip, Processor, RAM slots and Video chip, hard disk slots which are all integrated in the motherboard itself, in order to reduce the size of the system and other essential slots are incorporated in the motherboard itself, and if any extra slots are needed for connecting additional devices, then, user need to get externally through USB, which are incorporated to the motherboard.

Audio Chips and speakers

Audio chips and Speakers are merged in the motherboard itself. Some well-qualified audio chips which has built-in software or else if you do not have such built-in software then user can get external software that need to be installed, so that you can get many enhanced features. If you need to get better output, then, you can go for external speakers. But, you may need a jack port in the motherboard to support the external speakers.

Processors

The actual brain behind the operation of a laptop is processors. The design of the laptop's processor is highly differs from the processor of a PC, as, they are modified to reduce the heat and to save power. Although the processor is slightly modified, to suite the requirement of the laptop, the laptop will work in the same speed as the common PC does. Of course, the speed of a laptop will directly depends on the processor speed, thus while buying a laptop check out the processor features. Majority of laptop manufacturers use Intel Core 2 Duo and Intel Core Duo processor, because these are the fastest processors. The processors in laptops are usually non-upgradable. This means, if you have purchased a laptop with the slow processing speed, then one can’t upgrade as and when required.

Laptop RAM (SODIMM - Small Outline Dual-in-Line Memory Module)

Laptop makes use of SODIMM (Small Outline Dual-in-Line Memory Module) which is dissimilar and expensive than the desktops RAM. Unlike desktop's RAM the laptop's RAM is smaller and usually uses 2" X 1” with 144 pins. You can't mix types of RAM with your laptop. Some laptops require that you install RAM in matched pairs. For a system that has 512MB of RAM, that is composed of two sticks of 256MB RAM 2 GB is the minimum you should get. When purchasing your laptop have the RAM upgraded before you purchase.

Video Chips

One can go for better capacity hard disk while buying itself. Some laptops do not support upgrading of hard disks during the later stage. Look out for 320 to 500 GB hard disks if one needs to carry many data and programs along with it.

Laptop Advice

One word at last. One can find too many laptops across the globe with new and latest features getting added to it, day by day. You will probably go mad, if you keep searching for finest series of laptops. Instead, get a medium ranged laptop and start using it. One can change the parts later on or sell the old one n’ purchase a new laptop if the parts are not upgradable to suit your requirements.
