Tips to avoid Phishing traps

If you receive an email or pop-up message that asks for confidential or financial information, do not reply or click on the link in the message. Genuine Web sites don’t ask for this information via email. If you are concerned about your account, contact the organization in the email using a telephone number you know to be genuine, or open a new Internet browser session and type in the company’s correct Web address. Never cut and paste the link in the message. Please do not respond to email asking for personal or financial information. Email is not a secure method of transmitting personal information.

Before providing your personal or financial information through an organization’s Web site, look for indicators that the site is secure, such as a lock icon on the browser’s status bar or a URL for a website that begins with "https:" (where "s" stands for "secure"). At present there is no foolproof security provision available, some phishers, have not even spared the security icons. They have already forged it. So caution is the best solution. Take a glance regularly at credit card and bank account statements as soon as you receive them to confirm whether there are charges beyond your knowledge. If you find any suspicious charges or you don't receive your statement, call your credit card company or bank to confirm your billing address and account balances. Download and use anti-virus software and keep it updated.

Use anti-virus software that recognizes latest viruses as well as older ones; that can effectively prevent the damage; and updates automatically. A firewall helps you to block all suspicious messages from unauthorized sources. It’s especially important to run a firewall if you have a broadband connection. Finally, your operating system may offer free software patches to upgrade the system. Be cautious about opening any unknown or suspicious attachment or downloading any files from emails you receive. Last and the most important, always prepare to minimize your risk of damage from ID theft. I hope these Phishing solutions will help you to get protected from phishers.
