Let us understand what is Phishing?

Fraudsters send dummy e-mails to random accounts. The mails are written in such away, it appears to be come from genuine source like bank, internet service provider, credit card company or any other standard website. The email will ask you to give the reply with your credit card number, password, personal identification number (PIN) and other such important sensitive personal information. Sometimes an URL link is also embedded in the e-mail. If you click on this link, a dummy site will open. This dummy site will be same in appearance like the original site where you will be asked to enter your credit card number, password, personal identification number and other important personal data. Once you enter this data, it will be sent to the phishing server where hacker will collect it and ultimately use it to make purchases using your credit card information. Phishing is also known as carding or spoofing.

Out of 20 e-mails, one is Phishing e-mail

The phishing will be major problem in the future. The problem is continuing to rise. Typically in a year more than 3 billion phishing e-mails are sent by phishers. In every 20 mails sent on net, one mail belongs to phishing mail category. If this trend continues, it will seriously affect e-commerce and Internet transactions.

How to remove Securybanks Phishing Trojans?

The securybanks phishing trojans copy itself in the temporary internet filescontent ie5 folder and inside the index.dat file. This is the reason it reappears again. And you can not remove it easily. It then gets attached to IE.

5) You will get lot of “ get rich quick junk e-mails” asking your credit card information and passwords. Just delete these e-mails.

6) Always check your credit card and bank account statements periodically.

7) Always update your antivirus software and personal firewall software. If you are using Windows operating system, please update to latest service pack.

8) Never open the e-mail file attachments.

9) Always report the phishing activities to FTC. You can forward the phishing e-mail to spam@uce.gov. Also you can file the complaint against scam at www.ftc.gov.
