For the convenience of the genuine and volume license customers Microsoft is providing additional three-day grace period to re-activate after significant hardware changes.

Product Activation

As a part of its anti-piracy campaign Microsoft has designed Windows XP activation code. It is a step towards reducing casual copying of software.

Activation also helps to prevent hard drive cloning. Activation is designed to protect your privacy. It is simple.

You have to use the product key to install the software and then it is transformed into an installation ID number. An activation wizard is used to provide the installation ID number to Microsoft either through a secure transfer over the Internet or by telephone to activate your product with the help of confirmation ID from Microsoft. Thus you can define confirmation ID as a key to unlock the code for the Windows XP installation on that particular computer.

If you frequently install the number of hardware components, it may be recognized as a new computer by the Windows XP software. In this case you have to reactivate Windows XP by calling the telephone number displayed on the activation screen to reactivate the Windows XP.

Please don't forget to activate your activation within a grace period of 30 days if you have not activated Windows XP, you will be reminded whenever you log in and at common intervals until the end of the activation.

Activation to prevent the multiple installations

The purpose of Activation is to prevent the multiple installations of a single copy of Windows XP on more than one computer. The ultimate aim of Microsoft is clear and that is to increase the revenue by preventing software piracy.
